Review: Harley Quinn: The Animated Series – The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour #1

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are finally on the road trip of the century! Following the wedding disaster of the decade, the “Harlivy” romance is officially in full swing. This comic picks up mere seconds after the finale of the successful Harley Quinn Animated Series. Specifically, Harley and Ivy are on the run from a vengeful Commissioner Gordon and the GCPD. Consequently, fans who have been crying out for more of this duo finally have the sequel they deserve.

Tee Franklin Delivers High-Adrenaline Romance

Writer Tee Franklin starts the story with a massive burst of adrenaline. With the dust still settling from Ivy’s failed wedding to Kite Man, the lovebirds must navigate their new status as Gotham’s most wanted. Furthermore, Ivy is understandably reflective and guilt-ridden about leaving Kite Man at the altar.

Specifically, a fascinating moment occurs when Dr. Quinzel—Harley’s psychological alter-ego—shows up to warn Harley not to push Ivy too hard. However, Harley ignores her more sensible half and continues her mission to cheer up her new partner. In addition, the script is packed with the same irreverent humor and in-jokes that made the TV show a cult classic.

Max Sarin’s Wacky and Vibrant Art

The artwork by Max Sarin is the perfect choice for this title. Specifically, Sarin mirrors the bright, cartoonish style of the show while adding a unique comic book flair. Moreover, the character expressions are gloriously mad, capturing the high-energy chaos of Harley and the emotional vulnerability of Ivy.

Additionally, the scenes in Harley’s “Secret Abandoned Mall Lair” are a visual treat for fans. Therefore, readers who enjoyed the aesthetic of the HBO Max series will find the transition to the page completely seamless. It is bright, wacky, and perfectly captures the tone of the “Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour.”

Final Thoughts: A Must-Read for Harlivy Fans

Ultimately, this is the type of story fans have been waiting for. While it is a comic based on a cartoon based on a comic, it manages to feel fresh and essential. In summary, if you love the chaotic chemistry between Harley and Ivy, you cannot miss this issue.
