INTRODUCTION: The Post-King in Black World
Welcome to our Venom #1 Review. An epic new era for Marvel’s most sinister symbiote starts right here. Hot off the heels of Venom #200 and Extreme Carnage, this 2021 launch is one of the most ambitious books in symbiote history.
Marvel mainstay Al Ewing, fresh from his character-redefining run on Immortal Hulk, joins forces with horror maestro Ram V. Together, they craft a gut-wrenching tale of symbiosis. With industry legend Bryan Hitch on pencils, this is a version of Venom unlike anything we have seen before.
WRITING: The Dual Journey of Eddie and Dylan
In this Venom #1 Review, we analyze how Ewing and Ram V split the narrative. Having two industry powerhouses on one book is a rare treat. They do not disappoint. The story switches between Eddie Brock—now the cosmic King in Black—and his son Dylan on Earth.
This dual focus creates an exciting look at the fallout from recent crossovers. Eddie struggles with his god-like powers in space, while Dylan tries to bond with the symbiote in a world that fears him. A new threat appears quickly, proving that even a “King” is never truly safe. The pacing is tight, and the dialogue feels sharp and purposeful.
ARTWORK: Bryan Hitch and Dark Foreboding Tones
Bryan Hitch does an amazing job on the visuals for this Venom #1 Review. His depiction of the symbiote bonded with Dylan really stands out. The level of detail is fantastic, whether the scene takes place in the depths of space or the gritty streets of Earth.
Alex Sinclair adds to the experience with dark and foreboding colors. This palette helps set a serious, high-stakes tone for the entire book. Visually, the book is a triumph. I found myself examining every panel in great detail to catch the intricate symbiote textures Hitch is known for.
VERDICT: The Final Venom #1 Review
Overall, this is a must-read for any Marvel fan. Ram V and Al Ewing are truly titans of the industry. They have launched an intriguing storyline that promises to be a fantastic story arc. If you haven’t picked this up yet, go to your local comic shop immediately.
