BGCP Interview: Catching Up with Paul Amos
At BGCP (Big Glasgow Comic Page), we love bringing you closer to the stars behind your favorite games and shows. In this exclusive creator interview, our very own Dan and Massimo sit down for a chat with the talented Paul Amos.
While you might know him best for his charismatic voice acting or his on-screen villainy, Paul has a diverse career that spans massive video game franchises and hit sci-fi television series.
Who is Paul Amos?
If you’ve been navigating the Victorian streets of London in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, you’ll recognize Paul immediately as the voice and motion capture performance behind the roguish Master Assassin, Jacob Frye. His portrayal of Jacob made him a fan favorite in the gaming community, cementing his place in Assassin’s Creed history.
But his resume goes far beyond the Animus. Paul is also widely celebrated for his role as Vex, the sarcastic and morally ambiguous Mesmer in the cult-hit supernatural drama Lost Girl. More recently, superhero fans caught him as Uncle Brink in the Netflix adaptation of Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy.
What We Discuss in This Episode
In this deep-dive interview, Dan and Massimo peel back the curtain on the entertainment industry. It’s not just a standard Q&A; it’s a look into the mechanics of acting in the modern era.
Here are a few highlights of what you can expect from the conversation:
Flying High in Jupiter’s Legacy: Ever wonder what it actually looks like to film a superhero flight scene? Paul breaks down the technical reality behind the movie magic and what it’s like to work on a set with that level of special effects.
Working with Ubisoft: Assassin’s Creed is a juggernaut in the gaming world. Paul discusses how much creative input an actor actually has when working with a massive company like Ubisoft. Do they stick strictly to the script, or is there room for improvisation when bringing a character like Jacob Frye to life?
The Industry Post-Covid: The pandemic changed everything for actors and creators. The trio discusses how Covid-19 has shifted the landscape of film and television production, and what the “new normal” looks like for working actors.
