Comic Con

BGCP Podcasts and Comic Con

BGCP Comic Con was started as The Big Glasgow Comic Page back in July 2012 mostly out of boredom and trying to find more Comic Fans to speak to, The Scottish Facebook Page gathered likes extremely fast as there wasn’t anything like it at the time and eventually this led to a Comic Book Group, Pub Quizzes, Tournaments and eventually a Comic Book Market  based soley in Glasgow.  We organized BGCP Comic Markets for several years until we had outgrown the smaller venues in Glasgow City Centre so set out to run Comic Cons in and out of Glasgow and further over Scotland including East Kilbride, Rutherglen, Loch Lomond, Dunoon, Aberdeen, Bathgate, Edinburgh, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy and countless more towns and cities.

BGCP Comic Con is a series of Scottish Conventions that happen in and around Glasgow, Fife and Aberdeen. BGCP also publish articles, reviews and news.

Darth Vader Cosplayer Loch Lomond Comic Con

The Ultimate Pop-Culture Guide to Scotland Inverness

The Ultimate Pop-Culture Guide to Scotland Inverness If you are planning a trip to scotland inverness this summer, there is much more to the capital of the Highlands than just monster hunting on Loch Ness. For fans of sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, and movies, the Scottish Highlands have quietly transformed into the ultimate geek destination. From world-famous cinematic landscapes to thriving local tabletop communities, the north of Scotland is bursting with pop-culture magic. Whether you are a hardcore cosplayer, a Pokémon card collector, or a film buff tracing the steps of wizards and superheroes, this is your ultimate guide to exploring the geeky side of the region. The Main Events: Highland Comic Cons Hit the North The absolute highlights of the northern geek calendar are the massive conventions bringing big-city pop-culture energy directly to the Highlands. Inverness Comic Con The highlight of the summer calendar for pop-culture fans is undoubtedly the return of Inverness Comic Con, taking over the Inverness Leisure Centre at Bught Park. Packed with massive media props, retro gaming zones, and a giant market hall, it has become a legendary staple for fans across the country. Why Scotland Inverness is the Ultimate Cosplay Backdrop If you are planning to suit up for the big event, you are in luck. The stunning, wooded trails of the Ness Islands are located right next to the venue. It is the single best location in scotland inverness for an epic outdoor cosplay photoshoot after you show off your gear on the main stage! The lush greenery, historic footbridges, and rushing waters of the River Ness provide a perfect cinematic background for fantasy, medieval, or sci-fi characters. Fort William Comic Con Expanding the Highland invasion, Fort William Comic Con recently made its historic debut at the Nevis Centre right in the shadow of Ben Nevis. Bringing iconic character meet-and-greets (from Spider-Man to Transformers) and premier geek traders to Lochaber, it proves that the appetite for comic culture in the north is bigger than ever. Where to Shop: Local Comic, Toy & TCG Hubs You don’t need to head down to the Central Belt to get your hands on rare graphic novels or competitive trading card setups. The region boasts fantastic brick-and-mortar strongholds for the community. Tabletop, Book & Toy Hunting in Scotland Inverness For those looking to unearth hidden literary treasures right in the city, look no further than Leakey’s Bookshop. Housed inside an old Gaelic church complete with a roaring wood-burning stove, Scotland’s largest second-hand bookshop is an absolute paradise for sci-fi, fantasy, and classic graphic novel hunters. For mainstream collectibles, LEGO sets, or the latest action figures, you can check out The Entertainer in the Eastgate Centre or Smyths Toys Superstore over at the Rose Street Retail Park. However, if you want a dedicated, independent comic book experience, you have to look slightly further afield in the Highlands. Just a 30-minute drive north of Inverness at 63 High Street in Alness, you’ll find TT Retro, a brilliant spot packed with graphic novels, action figures, and vintage collectibles. But for the ultimate northern pilgrimage, you need to head straight to the top of the country to visit The Cave in Thurso. Positioned on 39 Olrig Street, this legendary shop serves the far north and is famously celebrated as the most remote comic and anime store in the entire UK. Boasting an extensive collection of manga, Western comics, graphic novels, and imported Japanese figures, it is a true community hub for northern geeks. Because permanent local shops are spread across vast distances, the giant trading hall at Inverness Comic Con serves as the definitive pop-up marketplace of the year, bringing all of these regional vendors, retro game merchants, and rare comic dealers under one roof.. Silver Screen Landscapes: Famous Highland Filming Locations No geek trip to the north is complete without visiting the legendary landscapes that have played host to Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters. Movie Tourism Outside of Scotland Inverness While the convention action stays central, the surrounding Highlands offer a massive playground for movie location hunters. Just a short drive outside of scotland inverness, you can walk the grounds of Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns (essential stops for Outlander fans tracing Jamie and Claire Fraser). If you head slightly further north, you will find Ardross Castle, the spectacular filming location for the smash-hit global TV reality show The Traitors. Further west into the Highlands, you can witness the cinematic landscapes that have shaped modern filmmaking: Location Famous As Seen In What to Look For Glenfinnan Viaduct Harry Potter series Watch the iconic Jacobite Steam Train (The Hogwarts Express) cross the majestic 21-arched viaduct. Glen Etive & Glencoe James Bond: Skyfall, Braveheart Drive through the dramatic, brooding valleys that served as 007’s ancestral Scottish home. The Quiraing (Isle of Skye) Star Wars: The Force Awakens Marvel at the otherworldly rock formations used to depict alien planets and fantasy realms. Eilean Donan Castle Highlander, The World Is Not Enough The definitive sci-fi/fantasy castle, famous as the home of Connor MacLeod and an MI6 safehouse. From the bustling aisles of Inverness Comic Con to the cinematic majesty of the mountain passes, it’s clear that scotland inverness is the ultimate staging ground for your next nerdy road trip. Grab your cape, pack your deck box, and we’ll see you in the Highlands!

BGCP Comic Con

The Complete History of BGCP Comic Con Events: 2012 to 2026

The History of BGCP Comic Con Events: From 2012 to Present The Big Glasgow Comic Page didn’t start in a boardroom; it started in a dusty, damp Glasgow market with the Doctor Who theme tune playing on an agonizing loop. I walked out of that venue disappointed, but inspired. I knew BGCP Comic Con events could be done better. At the time, I was working office and retail jobs with zero event experience. I just wanted a space to talk about comics, games, and movies. What started as a simple Facebook page quickly spiraled into book groups, pub quizzes, and eventually, a travelling Comic Con. We’ve since taken over everything from nightclubs and sports halls to shopping centres and lochs. Why? Because I wanted to create the events that 10-year-old me would have lost his mind over—affordable, local, and accessible. Growing up, I didn’t have much, so the goal has always been to bring the Con to the local town hall so a kid can spend their pocket money on a comic rather than a £20 entry ticket. Below is the master list of over 300 BGCP Comic Con events we’ve run since our inception. When was your first BGCP event? BGCP Comic Con Events: 2012 – 2014 Origins These early dates represent the birth of the BGCP Comic Con events circuit in Glasgow’s local pub and club scene. 2012 October 2012 2013 February 2013 July 2013 November 2013 2014 March 2014 April 2014 May 2014 June 2014 July 2014 August 2014 September 2014 October 2014 November 2014 December 2014 BGCP Comic Con Events: 2015 – 2017 Expansion As we grew, our BGCP Comic Con events moved into historic halls and expanded beyond the Glasgow city limits. 2015 February 2015 March 2015 May 2015 June 2015 July 2015 August 2015 October 2015 November 2015 2016 February 2016 March 2016 April 2016 May 2016 June 2016 July 2016 August 2016 September 2016 October 2016 November 2016 December 2016 2017 January 2017 February 2017 March 2017 May 2017 June 2017 July 2017 August 2017 September 2017 October 2017 November 2017 BGCP Comic Con Events: 2018 – 2020 Nationwide Growth This era saw BGCP Comic Con events hitting major Scottish towns for the first time. 2018 February 2018 March 2018 April 2018 May 2018 June 2018 July 2018 August 2018 September 2018 October 2018 November 2018 2019 February 2019 April 2019 May 2019 June 2019 July 2019 August 2019 October 2019 November 2019 2020 February 2020 December 2020 Covid/Lockdown 2021 May 2021 June 2021 July 2021 August 2021 September 2021 October 2021 November 2021 December 2021 2022 January 2022 February 2022 March 2022 April 2022 May 2022 June 2022 July 2022 August 2022 September 2022 October 2022 November 2022 December 2022 2023 January 2023 February 2023 March 2023 April 2023 May 2023 June 2023 July 2023 August 2023 September 2023 October 2023 November 2023 December 2023 2024 February 2024 March 2024 April 2024 May 2024 June 2024 July 2024 August 2024 September 2024 October 2024 November 2024 December 2024 2025 February 2025 March 2025 April 2025 May 2025 June 2025 July 2025 August 2025 September 2025 October 2025 November 2025 December 2025 2026 January 2026 February 2026 March 2026   Find your next BGCP Comic Con Event

Rutherglen Comic Con

Rutherglen Comic Con: Legends of the Town Hall Revealed

Rutherglen Comic Creators: From the Town Hall to the Global Stage Rutherglen is more than just a historic royal burgh; it is a powerhouse of comic book creativity. For years, the streets of Rutherglen have inspired some of the biggest names in the industry. Specifically, the Rutherglen Town Hall became a sanctuary for fans when BGCP hosted the first-ever Rutherglen Comic Con in 2017. This landmark event brought local legends back to their roots. While the final Rutherglen Comic Con took place in 2020, the legacy of the “Ruglonian” creators continues to dominate the global stage. THE FIRST EVER RUTHERGLEN COMIC CON (2017) In early 2017, BGCP made history by bringing a large-scale comic event to South Lanarkshire. Consequently, the Rutherglen Town Hall was packed with families looking for free family events in Glasgow and free kids events in Scotland. Furthermore, the 2017 show featured an incredible guest list that was truly “made in Rutherglen.” Frank Quitely, Gary Erskine, and John Lees all appeared as guests, meeting fans and signing books in the very town where they grew up. This connection between creator and community made the Rutherglen dates some of our most cherished memories before the final 2020 show. Meet the Rutherglen Legends Rutherglen has produced a disproportionate amount of world-class talent. Moreover, each of these creators has left an indelible mark on the world of superheroes, horror, and sci-fi. Frank Quitely (The Modern Master) Born Vincent Deighan, Frank Quitely is arguably the most famous comic artist to emerge from Rutherglen. Specifically, his meticulous detail and unique style have made him a household name at DC and Marvel. Gary Erskine (The Versatile Visionary) Gary Erskine grew up in Burnside and attended Stonelaw High School. Additionally, he has spent over 30 years working for every major publisher in the industry. John Lees (The Horror Specialist) Representing the new generation of Rutherglen talent, John Lees is a multi-award-winning writer known for his chilling and atmospheric storytelling. Rutherglen Town Hall: A Cultural Hub The Rutherglen Town Hall served as the perfect backdrop for these events. Consequently, its grand architecture matched the epic scale of the stories told by our guests. Although our final comic con in the town was held in 2020, we still encourage fans to support local talent through our current shows. If you are looking for free kids events in Scotland today, you should check our current schedule. Specifically, we still host massive takeovers across the country where you can find the latest books by these Rutherglen creators. Visit our to see where the next “Town Hall” style takeover is happening!
