Intro

The story that’s been building for years is here! Wilson Fisk went from Kingpin to mayor of the biggest city in America and is going to bring his full criminal and political power to bear on the super heroes who call NYC home. The man who once destroyed Daredevil has set his sights on The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and more. And since it’s Fisk, once he takes them all down, you know he’s going to sign it. CROSSBONES! TASKMASTER! TYPHOID MARY! SHOCKER! WHIPLASH! RHINO! KRAVEN! Fisk has an ARMY of super villains at his command – and this is just his opening salvo. For years, Fisk has waited for his time to strike, and YOU WON’T BELIEVE the aces he’s got up his sleeves!

Writing

With the conclusion of the current Daredevil run comes the next big Marvel Event. And Chip Zdarsky remains at the helm. Who better to steer the ship than the Daredevil powerhouse. And if this first issue is anything to go by, then we are in for a hell of a ride! Picking up from the conclusion of Daredevil #36 and Wilson Fisk’s marriage to Typhoid Mary, the former Kingpin of Crime and current Mayor of New York has set sights on taking down all super-powered individuals. And he has his own Task-Force to do it with! I don’t want to give anything away but this had me gripped from start to finish. Fantastic first issue.

Artwork

Given that Marco Checchetto has worked on Daredevil previously, it was no surprise to see him again pairing with Chip Zdarsky for this book. And given his pedigree, the artwork shines throughout. I have to mention the Main Cover by Checchetto as it really caught my attention when I first saw it. Especially with the shadowy figure of Wilson Fisk lurking in the background with the Devil’s eye. And let’s not forget the amazing Variant Covers from John Romita Jr, Inyhuk Lee and Chip Zdarsky, to name but a few. Eye-catching every one. Feel free to check out the rest of the variant covers here.

Overall

Now that’s how you kick off a new Marvel Event! There may only be 6 issues of the main storyline but with all the various tie-ins and one-shots, this looks to be a fantastic series that will have series implications to the superhero community. Chip Zdarsky has only just concluded the Daredevil run and has moved seamlessly to his next big project, keeping up that amazing standard of writing that we have come to expect. And with Marco Checchetto, he has an artist whose work only enhances the story to another level. Marvel fans, you are in for a treat!
