Writing
it’s hard not to love the pairing of Declan Shalvey and Rory McConville as they have consistently delivered on each issue. And although issue #5 marks the end of the first story arc, I am hoping they pair up again in the future. Because this series has been nothing short of fantastic. They have captured the imagination with their own take on a Time Travel adventure. And I along with other fans of this series will be desperate to see what happens next with Tatsuo and Nadia.
Artwork
As with the previous issues, the artwork succeeds in its subtlety. And when you have such restrained use of colour, it allows the artwork to shine. Joe Palmer excels as always and the artwork has that enjoyable noir feel to it. Palmer is accompanied by Chris O’Halloran who utilises his vast experience to great effect and his use of colour accentuates Palmer’s fantastic artwork. But we have to save the best for last, as Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou is possibly one of the greatest letterer’s in the business and when I see his name attached to a book, I instantly sit up and take notice.
Overall
So this is it. The dramatic conclusion of the first story arc of this hit new series. And what a rollercoaster it has been! I have thoroughly enjoyed this from start to finish and cannot wait for the next story arc. It only feels like yesterday that I had discovered the preview of this as an upcoming series and I was invested from then. The fantastic writing pairing of Shalvey and McConville have really put their own stamp on this Time Travel series and when it is aided with the powerhouse art-team of Palmer, O’Halloran and Otsmane-Elhaou, then you know it’s a winning formula.
For those who may have just stumbled across this series, the Volume 1. TP is out 20 October 2021 from Image Comics.
