Intro
AN EPIC NEW ERA FOR THE SINISTER SYMBIOTE STARTS HERE! Hot off the heels of VENOM #200 and EXTREME CARNAGE, we’re closing out 2021 with one of the most ambitious books in symbiote history – an all-new VENOM from some of comics’ greatest talents! Marvel mainstay AL EWING, who himself has just ended a character-redefining run on IMMORTAL HULK, is being joined by RAM V, a horror maestro all his own, to craft a mind-bending and gut-wrenching tale of symbiosis the likes of which the Marvel Universe has never seen! AS IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH, they’ve been joined by industry legend BRYAN HITCH, who is leaving IT ALL ON THE PAGE! We haven’t led you astray yet, have we? So trust us when we tell you that you have NEVER seen a VENOM like this!
Writing
Ram V AND Al Ewing?! When you have two powerhouses of the comic industry in one book then you know you are in for something special. And let me tell you they do not disappoint. With the story switching between Eddie and Dylan, it really is an exciting look at what’s next after KING IN BLACK and EXTREME CARNAGE. And with Eddie installed as the new King in Black, it’s not long before a new threat appears!
Artwork
Bryan Hitch does an amazing job on this book and his depiction of the Venom symbiote when it’s bonded with Dylan really stood out for me. Overall the level of the detail, whether it be on Earth with Dylan or in space with Eddie, really is fantastic. Then you have Alex Sinclair dropping some dark and foreboding colouring to help set the overall tone for the book. Visually the book really is great and I found myself greedily examining all the panels in great detail.
Overall
Given the fall out from the KING IN BLACK and EXTREME CARNAGE, it was always going to interesting to see what would happen in a new run. And given that you have Titans of the industry in Ram V and Al Ewing as co-writers, then this is one book that I was eager to get my hands on. It did not disappoint. An intriguing storyline which hints at being another fantastic story arc. Fans of the Venom comic should be picking this up if they haven’t already!
