Aaron Taylor-Johnson to play Kraven
Avengers: Age of Ultron star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to play the Spider-Man villain in the upcoming Kraven the Hunter solo film from Sony. One of Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters, Kraven is one of Marvel’s most iconic and notorious anti-heroes, who has encountered Venom and Black Panther, among many others, as well as being one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies. The film is set to bow on Jan 13, 2023.
Sony is developing several Marvel projects of their own with Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius on the way. We’ve also known that Sony is working on a solo film centred on Kraven the Hunter, and that project has now found its star. The studio announced on Wednesday Avengers: Age of Ultron star Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the Spider-Man villain in the upcoming Sony-Marvel project.
In addition to Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing the famed Spider-Man foe, Kraven the Hunter will be helmed by J.C. Chandor, best known for A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier. The script for Kraven the Hunter comes from Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk. Longtime Spider-Man fans Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing, with the screenplay written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk.
Taylor-Johnson just wrapped production on another Sony action pic Bullet Train opposite Brad Pitt. He is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
There are no hints at a plot but my guess is that they jump right into the most famous Kraven story: Last Hunt. Frustrated with his repeated failed attempts at killing Spider-Man, Kraven the Hunter hatches a final plot to best his adversary, shooting and burying him alive. With his enemy out of the way, Kraven dons a Spider-Man costume and patrols the city, intent on proving himself a better hero. The real Spider-Man soon awakens and hunts the Hunter!
