Pierce Brosnan Cast as Doctor Fate in the Black Adam Movie

Doctor Fate

Production on the Black Adam movie is due to start soon and a pretty significant casting choice has just been dropped. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the fifth James Bond himself; Pierce Brosnan will play the character of Doctor Fate! The veteran Irish actor joins Dwayne Johnson who will portray Black Adam in the film and will appear alongside Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, as well as Marwan Kenzari and Sarah Shahi in yet-to-be-revealed roles.

Filming on the production is due to start next month in April in Atlanta, Georgia. Dwayne Johnson teased that the production was starting shortly on his social media accounts earlier in the week.

A number of different versions of Doctor Fate have been appeared in DC Comics over the years. However, Brosnan will play the version of the character named Kent Nelson; the first Doctor Fate.

Doctor Fate wears the cloak, amulet, and helmet of Nabu, and is a master of sorcery with a vast array of abilities up his sleeve including flight, strength and telepathy amongst various other powers. There are limitless options for how the character could be utilised in a live-action film, so he should function as a worthy adversary for the film’s titular anti-hero.

Doctor Fate

It was reported a few months ago that DC and Warner Bros. had “big plans” for the character of Doctor Fate, so it is nice to see them back up those claims with this casting.

A few months ago, Dwayne Johnson said if the upcoming film:

“Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be. But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero I could never be. I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority. Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way. Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid – my superhero dreams have come true. I’m honored to join the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a true pleasure to become, BLACK ADAM. BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line. He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way. Truth and justice – the BLACK ADAM way.”

Doctor Fate

The release date for Black Adam is yet to be unveiled, but we will mostly likely not find out this information for a while, as the film has already been delayed multiple times because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
