Issue #1

CHRISTIAN WARD, the Eisner Award-winning co-creator of ODY-C, Invisible Kingdom, and Machine Gun Wizards, returns to Image with red-hot artist PATRIC REYNOLDS (The Mask) for an all-new ONGOING SERIES-a fast-paced 100 Bullets-style crime saga with fangs!
Atticus Sloane-misanthrope, criminal, asshole, and vampire-lives in a world where blood isn’t the only thing vamps crave. And for the right price, he’ll make you a vampire too. After all, immortality isn’t cheap.

Writer: Christian Ward

What’s left fr vampires in the modern world? With every aspect of the mythology asset-stripped by franchises like True Blood, Twilight and The Strain surely there can’t be a unique tale left to excite audiences? Ward manages to find that angle, in a world where there are two types of vampires First Borns (natural vampires) and Sips (those they create but that cannot create themselves) we find Atticus Sloane, a bored firstborn, who uses his gift to make as much money as he can flipping humans into sips.

For Ten Thousand plus 10% of future earnings the price of immortality seems cheap and with his latest sip a social media influencer she’s soon attracting too much attention for Sloane’s activities to not come to the attention of other First Borns. When one of Sloane’s Sips turns up as the main course on a feast night he feels the noose tightening around his neck.

It’s visceral, vibrant and perfect for 2022’s jaded society where all crave fame and immortality.

Artist: Patric Reynolds

For those hoping to see Ward’s artistic work in this issue he’s mainly on Cover Artwork and leaves the gloriously coloured pages to Reynolds, Moore and Otsmane-Elhaou to blow your mind with multi-layered visuals. This is Blade Runner on Acid, a glorious colourful barrage of primary colours to expand your experience.

Moore’s colour palette makes the artwork and lettering instantly exciting, fresh meat for greedy readers to gobble up.

Overall Thoughts

If you like your vampires less sparkly, Blood Stained Teeth finds a fresh take within an already crowded universe of possibilities. Many will come attracted by the stunning covers Ward has skillfully drawn but most will stay for Moore’s colours and Reynolds’s glorious images. If you’re looking for a new series for your subscription this feels perfect. Artwork – 10, Writing – 9, Colours – 10, Lettering – 10.

T'was a cold dark night in East Kilbride... and below the roundabouts, something old and ancient began to shudder awake. The world would rue the day that it gave the Green Jaguar comics to read!
