Joker provides the GCPD with another missing piece of the puzzle involving two faces and two masks: Black Mask has travelled halfway around the world on the hunt for one of the pieces of the MASTER ENGINE, but someone is following him…someone with a gun aimed AT HIS FACE. The mystery deepens with not one but TWO double-crosses in the hunt for who killed the Riddler!

Matthew Rosenberg keeps the mystery train rolling with the third issue in this seven issue planned series. In the hunt for who killed the Riddler, fantastically narrated by the Joker, our focus shifts to Black Mask and his expedition to Russia. Rosenberg’s story in the first half of the book has the feel of the beginning of Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark. And as we’ve come to expect in previous issues, the book as a whole has it’s twists and turns.

In this issue Merino, Arreola and Delgado are joined by artist/colourer Keron Grant. And we can certainly see his influence in the first half of the book where he utilises minimalistic primary colours to great effect. And as a result it conveys the dark undertone we would expect from the story matter. In the latter half of the book, Merino & Arreola keep up there usual superb standard of artwork, as displayed in the first two issues.

The Joker Presents: A Puzzlebox #3 was another good issue from Rosenberg and Co. And the back and forth between Black Mask and Two Face was something that stuck out for me. Keron Grant’s artwork brought another dynamic to the series and certainly I would like to see more of this in future issues. Maybe not as strong a storyline as the previous issues but enjoyable nonetheless.
