Intro

After the conclusion of the fantastic first story arc, Image comics present this standalone story. A fascinating look at the work of the Syndicate outside of the main story arc. Issue #6 also features art by series co-creator DECLAN SHALVEY!
Writing
Declan Shalvey and Rory McConville may have completed the fantastic first story arc for Time Before Time but they are not resting on their laurels. I was intrigued to learn that Time Before Time #6 would be a standalone issue and wondered if it would just be some filler until the new story arc begins. I needn’t have wondered as this as it is a really interesting story which stands along-side the main story. And certainly it enhances the mythos of this story even further.
Artwork
The artwork is in keeping with what we have come to expect from the first story arc. Only in this issue, Joe Palmer has stepped aside to let co-creator Declan Shalvey take the reigns. And he keeps to much the same formula which was utilised by Palmer previously. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it right? Add in to that Chris O’Halloran’s moody colour work and you’ve got a book that really catches the eye.
Overall
How do you follow up on a fantastic first story arc? By keeping the momentum going and issuing an equally impressive standalone story which gives further insight into the world of the syndicate and how the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence. It’s a superb accompaniment to what has been an excellent series from Image Comics. And Declan Shalvey excels as both co-writer and artist in this book.
