Intro

Walter can’t remember who he is, and without him, this serial killer rescue mission is doomed. And to make matters worse, the Sunflower Cult have released some of their own monsters to devastating effect. Just how will they rescue Dennis now?

Issue #4 of a planned 6 part series from Image Comics. Writer Doug Wagner again pairs up with Artist Daniel Hillyard, his co-creator on the fantastic mini-series PLASTIC. (If you haven’t read this then I suggest picking it up, immediately!). The pair are joined by Eisner Award-winning colourist Dave Stewart and Letterer Ed Dukeshire and the team combine to produce one of the comics of the year.

Writing

Can you get Goosebumps from reading a comic book? Because I just did! Whilst Walter may not be the main focus of this issue, the supporting cast more than hold their own her. Doug Wagner is at his absolute best again and it is gripping how the fate of the serial killer ‘rescue squad’ is spiralling out of control. I am totally bowled over by how amazing this book is. It was an instant re-read after I finished it the first time.

Artwork

As with previous issues, the artwork from Daniel Hillyard is amazing. And his attention to detail is simply superb. I just find myself taking time to examine each panel in great detail as I have to marvel at his work. But let’s not forget the contribution of award-winning artist colourist Dave Stewart. Because his fantastic use of colour accentuates Hillyard’s artwork to another level of visual excellence.

Overall

Wow, just wow. What an issue. I have to admit I’m gutted to think there are only two issues left of this series, as it has been nothing short of amazing. Doug Wagner is a twisted genius who brings this gore-filled masterpiece to life. Some people might be sick of me talking about how good this series is but that’s because it genuinely is that good! Image Comics have another amazing book here.
