Are You Ready?
An ambitious young knight of King Arthur’s Round Table makes an ill-advised bargain and embarks on a personal quest in the new trailer for The Green Knight, a forthcoming film by director David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story) adapted from the famous 14th-century medieval poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Originally meant to debut at the SXSW festival, with an original May 2020 theatrical release, but as with most titles, the film was shelved in the face of the global pandemic.
Today, A24 have released the final trailer and I do hope that you won’t have nightmares after watching it!
Face Thy Destiny!
An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.
Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones, Absentia) plays the Green Knight; Sean Harris (Prometheus, The Borgias) plays King Arthur; Katie Dickie (Game of Thrones, Prometheus) plays Guinevere; Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) is the Lady, and Joel Edgerton (who played Gawain in Antoine Fuqua’s 2004 King Arthur) plays the Lord.
A24
Other notable A24 distributed films have included the bonkers Under the Skin, Room, Lady Bird, Uncut Gems and Midsommar, which goes to show the depth of popular indie films that the company has helped to bring to life.
With two other summer movies to come before The Green Knight’s arrival – horror flick False Positive and comedy-drama biography Zola – it looks like 2021 could be another big year for A24. Theatre doors opening in the UK just in time for The Green Knight’s release couldn’t be more perfectly timed for A24, as well as production companies Ley Line Entertainment and Bron Studios.
The Green Knight opens in theaters on July 30, 2021
