Synopsis

WHO IS BEHIND THE ATTACKS ON THREE OF RAVNICA’S PLANESWALKERS?

Across the vast Multiverse, those gifted with a “spark” can tap into the raw power of Magic and travel across realms – they are Planeswalkers, and they are being targeted.

When coordinated assassination attempts on Guildmasters Ral Zarek, Vraska, and Kaya rock the city of Ravnica leaving Jace Beleren’s life hanging in the balance, a fuse is lit that threatens not just these three Guilds, but the entire plane of Ravnica. With their homes rocked by an attack – and Jace Beleren’s life hanging in the balance – Planeswalkers Kaya, Ral and Vraska must discover who is behind it all. But as they begin to suspect one of Ravnica’s biggest Guilds is behind the attack, it becomes clear their enemy may be plotting something even more destructive…

Don’t miss a new beginning for the worldwide pop culture phenomenon by Jed MacKay (Marvel’s Black Cat) and Ig Guara (Marvel’s Ghost-Spider), perfect for new readers and long time fans.

Writing

I missed out on the first issue so it took me a couple of pages and a cup of coffee to get up to speed with this issue. So with no knowledge of Wizards of the West Coast, Magic The Gathering card game or what the Fraggle Rock is going on this comic I think I have handle on it.

Three Guildmasters have been attacked by Blindfighters with Ghostknifes (?!?!?) and after figuring out that the assassins are targeting Jace in his salty healer bath they defend his before heading off to Svogthos to pead to the Guild about the attack.

I’m sure fans of the wildly successful game have been following what I have said but MacKay is writing this for diehards and you should be careful picking this up with limited knowledge. With three issues to go, I hope that thingy helps thingy defeat thingly using thingy at thingy!

Artwork

The one that thing that i do know about MTG is that the artwork is stunning in this issue and the artwork is on point. Guara will keep fans happy expanding their universe with his visuals. the panelling, fights and dialogue are well developed and the colouring reminds me of Masters of the Universe of Mighty Morphin!

Overall Thoughts

My first overall thought is that I am way too old to be learning a whole universe of characters, places, skills and effects! But millions of fans can’t be wrong, perhaps I should some room in my muddled head for this series! It looks like print one may be about to sell out so keep an eye out for variant covers!

I give it a confusing 3 stars for story and 4 for artwork making a better than average 3.5 stars!

T'was a cold dark night in East Kilbride... and below the roundabouts, something old and ancient began to shudder awake. The world would rue the day that it gave the Green Jaguar comics to read!
