Christina Ricci to play Morticia Addams in the new Wednesday show?

The Illuminerdi is reporting that Tim Burton’s upcoming live-action Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday – is looking to cast the OG Wednesday from the ’90s films, Christina Ricci, as the Addams family matriarch, Morticia!

Meanwhile, the top contenders for the role of adult Wednesday herself are Jenna Ortega and Bailee Madison, and that the studio is specifically seeking out Hispanic actresses for the role (which makes sense, as both recent reboots had Hispanic actors playing Gomez, i.e. Raul Julia and Oscar Isaac, so presumably this version will as well.) Actors like Rami Malek as also in the frame!

Here’s is the official synopsis:

The latest adaptation will branch into a spin-off prequel on Netflix focusing on the young psychic in her primitive years at Nevermore Academy away from her family.

Christina Ricci to play Morticia Addams

The Addams Family is a fictional household created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. The Addams Family originally included (using the names assigned to them later) Gomez and Morticia Addams, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, close family members Uncle Fester[a] and Grandmama, their butler Lurch, and Pugsley’s pet octopus Aristotle. The dimly seen Thing (later a disembodied hand) was introduced in 1954, and Gomez’s Cousin Itt and Morticia’s pet lion Kitty Kat in 1964. Pubert Addams, Wednesday and Pugsley’s infant brother, was introduced in Addams Family Values.

The Addams’ are a satirical inversion of the ideal 20th-century American family: an odd wealthy aristocratic clan who delight in the macabre and are seemingly unaware or unconcerned that other people find them bizarre or frightening. They originally appeared as an unrelated group of 150 single-panel cartoons, about half of which were originally published in The New Yorker between their debut in 1938 and Charles Addams’ death in 1988. They have since been adapted to other media. In 1964, a live-action television series, starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones, premiered on ABC and subsequently inspired a 1977 television film and cameos from the cast in other shows. An unrelated animated series aired in 1973. The franchise was revived in the 1990s with a feature film series consisting of The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. Both received nominations for Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, and Hugo Awards.

T'was a cold dark night in East Kilbride... and below the roundabouts, something old and ancient began to shudder awake. The world would rue the day that it gave the Green Jaguar comics to read!
