E3 2021 – Square Enix Livestream Recap

Square Enix Livestream

The Square Enix Presents livestream took place on Sunday the 13th of June 2021 where the publisher made a few interesting announcements and showed off a few trailers for their upcoming projects.

Below is a recap of all of the most significant things shown during the Square Enix Presents livestream at E3 2021.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

We first learned about this game’s existence back in 2017, when news of its development initially leaked. However, during the livestream, we got our first official look at Eidos-Montréal’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game. Publisher Square Enix announced.

The game will be a single-player, third-person action-adventure game developed in partnership with Marvel and is set for release on the 26th of October 2021.

Marvel’s Avengers: War for Wakanda

Coming this August, Marvel’s Avengers: War for Wakanda is a new expansion for the monumental flop that was Marvel’s Avengers.

This latest attempt at saving the embarrassment that was the base game will star Black Panther and will add the biome of Wakanda.

Babylon’s Fall

Babylon’s Fall was initially announced three years ago, but the Square’s livestream finally gave us a new trailer for the title and it looks… weird and janky.

It was also revealed that the action-RPG can be experienced alone or played with up to four players in online co op.

Life is Strange

First of all, Dontnod gave us a glimpse at the Life is Strange Remastered Collection. This collection is set to include both Life is Strange and Before the Storm.

Developer of Life is Strange: True Colors, Deck Nine then appeared to reveal more details regarding the upcoming game’s Empathy mechanic as seen in the trailer above. This next entry in the Life is Strange series is due to drop on the 10th of September this year.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin

Yes, I am afraid that is the correct title.

The horribly named Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin will be developed by the team behind Ninja Gaiden and Nioh; Team Ninja.

This title will serve as a spinoff game of the Final Fantasy series and will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

It will arrive sometime in 2022. However, a trial version of the game is currently available on PlayStation 5 and will be available to check out until the 24th of June.

Summary

After the big disappointment that was the Ubisoft Forward conference at E3 2021, it is kind of amazing how Square Enix managed to have an even worse showing.

Other than the Guardians game, – which we have known about since 2017 and follows the huge let-down that was Marvel’s Avengers, – everything else on show was very lacklustre.

Do you agree? Did you see anything in this conference that truly excited you?
