Gotham Knights delayed until 2022

Gotham Knights delayed

The announcement that Gotham Knights has been delayed to 2022 means that the already long wait for a new game set in the Batman mythos is set to feel even longer. The announcement came from the official Twitter account for the game and promised that more news on Gotham Knights will be unveiled in the coming months.

The statement dropped by WB Games reads: “We are giving the game more time to deliver the best possible experience for players. Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights. We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months.”

Gotham Knights was originally unveiled back in August 2020 with a release date of 2021. The reveal trailer for the game teased that the famous Court of Owls will feature as the main antagonists in the game. Since the trailer dropped, a gallery of images has been put out that give us a further look at what we can expect to see in the game. These images included the four protagonists of the game: Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin.

Gotham Knights will be set in a version of Gotham City that has just lost Batman due to Bruce Wayne’s death. Following this loss, the responsibility falls on the four young playable members of the Bat-Family to keep order in Gotham and not let it fall to any of Batman’s rogues’ gallery. Players will get the chance to control of all four of the game’s protagonists in an action-adventure gameplay experience that will be in the same vein as the Batman Arkham series.

Although Gotham Knights is not an official sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight, it will function as a spiritual successor to that game. The plot in Gotham Knights will also loosely pick up from the ending of Arkham Knight which saw Bruce sacrifice his identity and ultimately his life, so that Gotham could be kept safe.

Gotham Knights is being developed by WB Games Montréal. This studio is comprised of the team behind Batman: Arkham: Origins. Origins was developed as a prequel to Rocksteady’s Arkham trilogy and received with mixed reviews upon its release.

A game delay is never a bad thing in the long run, as it ultimately gives the studio more time to develop the best possible experience for the audience.

Following the announcement that it has been delayed, Gotham Knights is now due to be released in 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
