Intro

AFTER THE DAWN… COMES THE REIGN!

The story that began with WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS continues here, in the second instalment of a trilogy that will reshape the history of the Star Wars Galaxy during the Age of Rebellion. Featuring the return of beloved characters, shocking twists, epic feats of the Force and a story that will reach from Star Wars’ darkest underworld all the way to the Imperial palace on Coruscant, Crimson Reign is a Star Wars saga like no other!

Writing

Having read through WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS, I was intrigued to see what the follow up would bring. And with a Star Wars veteran such as Charles Soule writing, I knew that we would be in good hands. His depiction of Qi’ra is fascinating and as the book progresses, we see how she is tactically manipulating each corner of the galaxy. And now that she has drawn the attention of Emperor Palpatine, surely it won’t be long before she has a visit from Lord Vader?

Artwork

Steven Cunningham’s art is in keeping with what we’ve come to expect from him over the years, crisp and detailed. And given the amount of characters he has to work with in this book, his level of precision does not drop. And you may just want to stop on his double page spread to check out the who’s who of Qi’ra’s Crimson Dawn. Really great work. But lets not forget the colour work of Jochen Weltjens, (better known by his pseudonym GURU-eFX), as it really pops off the page and is really suited to Cunningham’s art.

Overall

Star Wars: Crimson Reign #1 is a natural follow on to the recent ‘War of the Bounty Hunters’ series. And it gives more of an insight into Qi’ra and her role in charge of Crimson Dawn. The sheer magnitude of her manipulation reaches to every corner of the galaxy but will she come undone going up against the Empire? Charles Soule has started off on the right foot with this book and it will be interesting to see how it develops throughout the upcoming issues. Star Wars fans will certainly enjoy the newest instalment.
