Spider-Man 2 details emerge regarding Insomniac’s upcoming superhero sequel

Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is highly anticipated by comic book fans everywhere and a new leak has appeared Reddit that details features that are allegedly going to feature in the upcoming PS5 sequel to Insomniac’s Spider-Man.

Hype for the sequel is pretty high currently, considering that Spider-Man: Miles Morales, (the side story to the main Spidey game,) is outselling both The Last of Us: Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima in America.

This new leak that has appeared details the Symbiote storyline, playable characters, new villains, and more features that will apparently be present in the upcoming superhero sequel.

In the detailed Reddit post, the leaker claims that Insomniac are “further along than most people think” in terms of the game’s development. The leak also claims that the game will include 3 playable characters. In terms of story details, the plot in this entry will apparently revolve entirely around the alien Symbiote.

This would line up with the ending of the original Spider-Man game on PS4, in which we see the alien substance that is usually synonymous with Venon appear inside Harry Osborn’s bacta-tank.

Though, the leak suggests that Harry Osborn won’t appear as Venom in the sequel and we will instead see Peter Parker as the Symbiote host. We will also apparently see him gain his black suit that will come with its own set of gameplay mechanics. The leak goes on to claim that the black suit will come with a unique upgrade tree, and allow players to access unique abilities such as a “rage mode”.

Suits are also rumoured to be a much bigger deal in Spider-Man 2, if the leak is to be believed. Several suits will apparently factor into the game’s plot, and all previous suits unlocked in the first entry will also transfer to the sequel.

Insomniac is reportedly aware of issues players have with a lot of sequels and doesn’t want players to feel like they are starting over from the beginning again as the webhead. This also means that all progress made on gadgets and unlocked upgrades can also be transferred over from a save file for the first game.

In terms of villains that will feature in the sequel, Norman Osborn will allegedly not appear in the game. Lizard however, will appear in Spider-Man 2, although not as the main villain. Wraith (AKA Yuriko Watanabe) will apparently make several appearances in multiple boss fights throughout the game.

When it comes to the protagonists that will be playable, Spider-Man fans will be happy to hear that both Peter Parker and Miles Morales will both be playable. Allegedly, players will play as Peter for the majority of the game, but Miles will have “a lot to do in the story” as well as his own set of side missions. The third playable character isn’t mentioned in the leak.

Allegedly once you beat the game, you’ll be able to hotswap freely between the two Spider-Men. Also, the open-world of New York City will also apparently be expanded upon to allow for more exploration and a deeper level of realism.

Thanks to the extremely quick load times allowed by the PS5 in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, players will find that swapping between the two protagonists will be incredibly smooth.

The leak is attached in full below:

As always take all of this information with a huge pinch of salt until we get official word from Insomniac. Regardless though, this leak has upped my hype for the sequel.
