Intro

Tatsuo Edwards and FBI agent Nadia Wells’ fragile alliance comes under threat with a startling discovery and what they don’t realise is that there’s a deadly trap closing in around them. Just when the pair thought they had managed to escape the Union in last month’s issue, they stop for breath and then everything starts to unravel.

Image Comics present the newest issue from the creative minds of Declan Shalvey and Rory McConville. Complimented by the powerhouse art team of Joe Palmer, Chris O’Halloran and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Issue #4 of Time Before Time is out now in all good comic book shops.

Writing

If you haven’t read the previous three issues then where have you been? This series is a must read for fans of Time Travel. Yet again Declan Shalvey and Rory McConville bring another story with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. There’s a subtle flashback at the beginning of the book which I enjoyed. And this gives some more insight into one of the protagonist’s helping to explain more of the unfolding story. I wasn’t sure how the writers could keep it up after the fantastic last issue but they have knocked it out the park again.

Artwork

What is there to say about the artwork other than… fantastic. It speaks volumes in it’s restrained use of colour and its subtlety is completely in keeping with the overall tone of the story. Joe Palmer is an artist who should need to introduction having worked on 2000AD, the Judge Dredd Megazine and Write It In Blood (for Image Comics). And his artwork is perfectly matched with the colour work of Chris O’Halloran who previously worked with DC and Marvel. If that wasn’t enough they have one of the best letterers in the business with Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou and his influence shines throughout.

Overall

I may be completely bias but this is up there as one of my favourite comic series of this year. I’m a fan of Time Travel series’ as it is and this certainly piqued my interest when I first picked it up. Four issues in and each book has been as good as it’s predecessor. When you have fantastic writers such as Shalvey and McConville and they are joined by an elite art team of Palmer, O’Halloran and Otsmane-Elhaou, you know you are in for something special. If you haven’t been picking these books up, then get to your local comic book shop and pick them up immediately!
