PlayStation Showcase 2021 Finally Gets A Date

PlayStation Showcase 2021

After failing to show anything of significance at this year’s E3 and Gamescom shows, Sony has officially announced their PlayStation Showcase 2021. The showcase will be broadcast here on Thursday of next week, the 9th of September 1PM PT, 4PM ET and 9PM BST.

Although specific details regarding what will feature in the showcase haven’t been announced, Sony have stated that they plan to offer “a look into the future of the PS5,” which should mean that we should see a myriad of games set to drop during this coming holiday season and into 2022.

In the announcement of the showcase, Sid Shuman, Senior Director at SIE Content Communications said that, “The Showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes and include updates from PlayStation Studios and some of the industry’s most imaginative developers, for games releasing this holiday and beyond. And stick around after the presentation to get more updates from some of the studio teams featured in the Showcase.”

Another thing that we know for sure going in is that we will not see an appearance of the follow up to PlayStation VR at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Sony made it clear to fans that they should not expect to see anything regarding the peripheral during the livestream.

Other than that though, what we will see is anyone’s guess. Sony put out a State Of Play stream back in July and it was exceedingly underwhelming. However, this upcoming showcase is expected to serve as PlayStation’s response to the strong showing that Xbox had at E3 2021, so here’s hoping that they are coming to play.

Deathloop and Death Stranding Director’s Cut are games that I expect to see shown, however neither of those get me that excited if I’m being honest. Personally, I feel that Sony need to drop a bombshell reveal along with the stuff that we already know is on the way, such as Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7. A big reveal of something that we aren’t expecting along with perhaps an in depth look at the wildly anticipated God Of War: Ragnarok would make me pretty happy.

Back in May of this year, we reported on a story stating that, “There Are More Than 25 Exclusive PS5 Games In Active Development.” Am I the only one wondered where the hell these are? Because Sony have been uncharacteristically quiet on the software front since then.

As previously stated, the PlayStation Showcase 2021 will be broadcast next Thursday on the 9th of September 1PM PT, 4PM ET and 9PM BST. What do you expect to see at the PlayStation Showcase 2021? Are you hyped for this event or are you expecting to be left underwhelmed? Let us know in the comments below.
